# Pages, charts and apps from your assistants

> When an assistant builds a page, a chart, a document, a table, an image, a video, a recording, or a small app, it shows up under the answer and opens beside your chat.

Sometimes an answer is something to look at, not just something to read. An assistant can publish what it built, and you open it right in StellarFirm, next to the chat.

## What an assistant can publish

| You see | What it is |
| --- | --- |
| Page | A web page, with a chart, a report, or a small tool in it |
| Picture | A drawing or a chart as a picture |
| Document | Formatted text, like a brief or a plan |
| Table | Rows and columns from a spreadsheet file |
| Data | Structured data, easy to read |
| Image | A photo or a graphic. You can download it |
| Video | A clip you can play, with controls and full screen. It waits for you to press play |
| Audio | A recording you can play, with its own controls. It waits for you to press play |
| LaTeX | A LaTeX document, like a paper, lecture notes, or a worksheet, shown as its source and a preview |
| Jupyter notebook | A notebook with code, notes, formulas and results, shown ready to read, and a file you can download and open in Jupyter |
| ZIP archive | A set of files kept together, such as a lab's starter files or a dataset. You download it and open it on your computer; StellarFirm never opens it |
| PDF, slides or spreadsheet | A finished document the assistant made, such as a PDF, a text document, a slide deck or a spreadsheet. You download it and open it in its own app; StellarFirm never opens it |
| App | A small program the assistant started on its own computer |

Each one appears as a card under the answer with its name, its kind, and who made it. Press **Open** and it opens in a panel beside the chat. You can drag the panel wider, make it fill the screen, or close it. One artifact is open at a time.

## Pages and pictures are kept apart from StellarFirm

A page an assistant built is its own work, so StellarFirm treats it as something to look at and nothing more. It runs in a closed box: it cannot see your account, your chats, or anything else in StellarFirm, it cannot send information to an address, and it cannot open other pages or windows. If a page tries to open another address anyway, the box is closed and you are told. It can draw, animate, and respond to clicks inside its own box. If a page needs a chart library, it can load well-known ones from one trusted library host.

Documents, tables, data, and images are shown as plain content. Large tables show their first rows and columns, and say so. A video or a recording plays in the panel and can be downloaded. Nothing starts playing on its own.

## Pages as designs

Where this is switched on, a web page an assistant publishes opens as a design, with three views above it. Pages from your Designer are made for this and carry a spec.

- **Preview** shows the page. Choose **Desktop**, **Tablet**, or **Phone** to see it at that width. The page itself does not reload or change, only the width of the box around it.
- **Spec** lists what the page carries for whoever will turn it into code, which the Designer writes into its pages: colors, type, spacing, corner radii, shadows, breakpoints, components with their states, screens, and notes. A page with no spec says so, and the Coder then works from the page itself.
- **Code** shows the page's HTML as text. Press **Copy** or **Download** to take it with you.

The spec and the code are only ever shown as plain text. Nothing in them runs, and a color gets a swatch only when it is a plain color value.

### Build with a Coder

To have a design written as real code, press **Build with a Coder**, pick which of your Coders should take it and which framework to use, and press **Open the Coder's chat**. The framework can be the project's own stack (the default), React, Next.js, Vue, Svelte, Angular, React Native with Expo, or plain HTML and CSS. If you have no Coder yet, the window offers to hire one.

The Coder's chat opens with a message already written and the design file attached. If the design is already open in that Coder's own chat, the message and the file appear in that chat's message box right away, as long as the box is empty. **Nothing is sent.** Read the message, change anything you like, and press **Send** yourself. From there the Coder works as it always does: it checks its own work against the design, and it still waits for your Approve before it pushes code, opens a pull request, or deploys.

Once the Coder's chat has opened, the message and the file are held only on that page. If you reload before you press Send, both are gone, so download the design from the **Code** view and press **Build with a Coder** again.

Where your assistants can work with each other directly, the Designer may also send a design straight to a Coder. That is a message between your own assistants, and anything the Coder then does outside StellarFirm still waits for your Approve.

## LaTeX documents

A LaTeX document opens with a preview of how it reads, with its formulas drawn, and its source beside it. On a narrow panel you switch between **Preview** and **Source**; make the panel fill the screen to see both side by side. Press **Download** to save the file.

Where editing is switched on, you can change the source yourself. The preview follows a moment after you stop typing. Press **Save as a new version** to keep your edit: it appears as a new card next to the original, which stays as it was. If a save does not go through, the original is unchanged and you can still download your edit.

The preview is for reading. Pictures and a separate bibliography file are not shown in it, and a picture shows as a placeholder. To get a PDF, ask the assistant to make one on its computer and share it with you.

## Jupyter notebooks

A Jupyter notebook opens as a page you read: its code, its notes, its formulas, and the results the assistant saved in it, such as text, tables and charts. Nothing in it runs inside StellarFirm, so the results you see are the ones the assistant got when it ran the notebook on its own computer. Some results are left out because they need Jupyter to show, and the page says so.

Press **Download** to save the notebook, then open it in Jupyter on your computer to change it or run it again. Very long notebooks and very long results are cut, and the page says so; the downloaded file always has everything.

## Apps

An app runs on the assistant's own computer while you have it open. StellarFirm gives you a private address only after you press **Open**, and only you can get it. The app opens in the panel, and you can also press **Open in a new tab**.

- The computer keeps running while the preview is open, and a preview closes by itself after an hour.
- If the computer fell asleep, the panel says so. Press **Open again** to wake it.
- Closing the panel closes the preview.
- Apps come from the Coder, which is the assistant that is allowed to reach the internet for the packages it needs.
- Safari does not let a framed app keep its sign-in. If the app stays blank, press **Open in a new tab**.

## On your phone

The phone app shows the same cards under an answer. A file saves or shares from your phone. An app opens in the phone's browser. Where the phone cannot open something, the card tells you to open it in the web app.

## If you do not see them

Artifacts are rolling out step by step. If an assistant says it published something and no card appears, the feature may not be switched on for your account yet. The design views and **Build with a Coder** arrive the same way, so a page may still open as a plain page for now.
